Monthly Archives: February 2012

Tuesday’s update from Cam and Madi

Today in LA31 we had maths focus groups and we practiced reading, writing and saying big numbers. After that we went out for fitness and played tail-ball.After recess we read Harry Potter then we started planing for a video that we are making for when Mr Fuller goes to Sydney to talk to future teachers.

After lunch we started making video tutorials that are about fractions. If they are good enough then we can put them up on our Landsdale wiki site and the Landsdale website so other kids can learn how to understand fractions.

We had another really great day!

Special News Report from Ashlee and Sarah

Hello everyone, welcome to LA31!

Today we have been learning about fractions, how to convert them into percentages, changing the denominator, numerator and many other different things. It isn’t extremely hard but it is just a bit.

Mr Fuller’s class is the best and all of our class members agree. He always gives us great work and if we have any difficulties he will help us, He always makes school a happy place to be in. We get to do things on our macs that are really fun and educational like Mathletics. We all enjoy competing against each other on Mathletics and we wish that we could go on Mathletics every minute at school. Even homework is fun because we get to do it on our macs and take pictures. Like our proactive homework that you probably know about. It would be great if you would like to share some ideas that might help us improve our learning. Thanks!! 🙂

Comments welcome!

We want your feedback! Blogs are a two-way communication channel. So, if you are feeling brave, tell us what you think by leaving a comment.

The first time you comment, you will need to enter your email address (just to show you are a real human being). However, your email address will never be published.

All comments are moderated which means that I check them before they become public. This is just one of the safety mechanisms that we have in place to prevent the children accidentally encountering inappropriate material. However, all comments that are genuine and not offensive will be published.

So, leave a comment. All feedback is good feedback!

Year Six Agreements

Earlier this term, the Year Six students developed a set of agreements and consequences that will guide their behaviour during 2012.

We are so fortunate to have a group of students who consistently show outstanding behaviour and support one another to  do the right thing. We also appreciate the support of parents and families who reinforce these values and behaviours at home.

By now, you should have received a paper copy of the agreement, signed it and returned it to school. If you haven’t please contact Mr Fuller.

Parent Information Night

Missed the parent information night? Or maybe you enjoyed it so much, you want to relive it! Here’s a link to the slideshow that I used, plus some notes from the meeting.

We will also be holding an ICT information session on Wednesday 29 February from 5:30 to 6:30. I look forward to seeing you there and helping you and your family make the most of your child’s MacBook.

Calling all Mathletes!

Landsdale Primary School, with support from its wonderful parent community, has enrolled all students in the Mathletics online maths program. This is a fully interactive online system that works on both Macs and PCs. Using their login, students can compete against other students (from anywhere in the world) and consolidate the concepts that have been covered in class.

So, get cracking! Login to Mathletics today!

Class timetable

In LA31, teaching and learning is very fluid, integrated and flexible. We love to complete projects that combine different learning areas and that require us to use many different skills. We do, however, have a timetable and, as you can see, our emphasis is squarely on literacy and numeracy. However, there is plenty of time for fitness, the Arts and global education — Landsdale’s unique blend of geography, history, technology and science.

Feel free to pop in any time and see our class in action!

Submitting homework

Dog ate your homework? Make sure your homework gets to Mr Fuller on time by using DropItToMe. Simply click on the link, enter the password that Mr Fuller gave you and you can send your work straight to Mr Fuller’s computer.

Be sure to put your name on your work though. Technology may be wonderful, but it can’t do mind-reading yet!

Narrative Writing (with cartoon inspiration)

Today, we used the Toontastic app to provide us with some inspiration for our narrative writing. As a class, we wrote the epic saga ‘Dragon Dinner‘ (the silly voices belong to Mr Fuller!).

Based on the story that we created, we then wrote these amazing narratives in only ninety minutes. Here are a few great examples: Georgia’s story, Lachlan’s Story, Leah’s story. Enjoy!

Being Proactive (with diet coke and mentos!)

As a class, we are learning the Seven Habits of Happy Kids (based on the famous ‘Seven Habits of Highly Effective People).  These are seven universal principles that lay the foundation for success in all areas of life.

We began with habit number 1: Be Proactive. To show the difference between being reactive and proactive, Mr Fuller conducted the famous diet coke and mentos experiment. Watch the video below:
