LA 31 assembly

The students in LA 31 will be hosting the senior assembly next week. In their assembly item, they will be talking about the cultures of the world and encouraging the students at Landsdale to help fight racism.

The assembly will be held on Wednesday 4th of July at 2 pm. We would love for you to come along and join us.

For the assembly, each student has been assigned a bright colour to wear. As far as possible, we would like your child to dress in that colour. While we understand that it may not be practical to dress entirely in one colour, it would be great to see lots of bright shirts, wigs, sunglasses, headbands and hats.

We will also be holding a dress rehearsal at on Tuesday 3rd of July. Students should bring their costumes along with them on that day.

Exciting times in LA31

Film crew in LA31Wow! We have had an amazing few days in LA31. Our students competed with great sportsmanship and much success at the lightning carnival on Thursday. After the rain and thunder on Tuesday, I was so pleased that we had a sunny day and, most of all, I was proud of the outstanding sportsmanship that all of our students showed.

We also had a film crew in the class for a couple of days highlighting the wonderful things that are students are achieving with technology at Landsdale. This video will be shown far and wide and will, hopefully, inspire other schools to provide their students with the same opportunities that our Landsdale students have. We truly appreciate the support of our fantastic parent community in making the one-to-one laptop program a reality.

Finally, we are off to Kings Park for an excursion on Tuesday. We will be exploring the Rio Tinto Naturescape plus learning about the culture of the Nyoongar people. We still need some parent helpers. If you would like to be a part of this fun excursion, please email me or leave a comment below.

Launch of the Earthshaker Project

Earthshaker logoI am pleased to announce the launch of the Earthshaker Project, an initiative designed to empower the children of Landsdale Primary School and help them to make a real difference in the world.

At Landsdale Primary, we have a number of priorities that guide our teaching and learning. While our main emphasis will always be the teaching of literacy and numeracy, we teach these skills the context of:

  • Global education – helping students to understand and engage with an interconnected world;
  • Technology – teaching students to use technology effectively and wisely;
  • Sustainability – explaining the need to conserve and protect our natural resources; and
  • Values – teaching the importance of universal values and emphasising character strengths.

The students in LA31 are putting these priorities into action. They have made a series of amazing videos that encourage viewers to make small but significant changes to their lives. For example, the students are encouraging their viewers to take shorter showers, learn first aid or plant a vegetable garden.

The students have researched, scripted, performed, filmed and edited these videos entirely by themselves. I am so proud of what they have achieved so far. However, producing the videos is only the first step.

The videos are now being shared through our new website www.earthshakerproject.com. Over time, we hope that many people will watch these videos and listen to our message.  We also plan to produce more content for the site and invite other classes and schools to join us in our mission.

In developing the site, we carefully applied all that we have learned about online safety and digital citizenship. Naturally, the students have not included any personal or identifying information in their videos and there is no way for outsiders to contact the children directly.

Please take a look at the site and leave a comment. If you like what you see (and we hope you do), please invite your friends and family to visit too. We are sincere in our belief that we really can change the world if we can just convince enough people to join us in our quest.

I hope you will join us in our project. Let’s find out if a group of primary school students really can change the world.

LA31 News Report – Russia

Join our intrepid travel reporter Alyssa as she takes us on a tour of Russia.

One of the wonderful things about our school’s laptop program is that students are no longer limited to pen and paper when presenting their work. I was so impressed with the wide variety of different culture projects that the students submitted. Well done students!
