A week at the beach!

IMG_0613From Monday 18 March to Friday 22 March, the Year Six students will be having swimming lessons at Mullaloo beach. Beach swimming is an essential skill for children growing up in Australia  and, for many children, these lessons are one of the highlights of the school year.

The swimming lessons are free but bus costs are $27 per child for the five lessons. Information notes and permission slips have been sent home with all students. Please ensure that these are returned by Friday 8 March.

If you need a spare note, I have some in the classroom.

Maths tutorial (Part-part-whole diagrams)

This one is for students. Part-part-whole diagrams are an easy way to see the relationship between addition (plus) and subtraction (takeaway). Understanding this relationship is the key to concepts such as algebra.

Watch the video as many times as you need and rewind if you don’t understand something. Remember that teachers are always here to help.

Once you are done, have a go at completing these activities:

  1. Part-part-whole activities (Numbers format  or PDF format)
  2. Interactive part-part-whole activities

Parent information night

Thanks to all parents who turned up to the parent information night on Monday 18 February.  If you weren’t able to make it, you can either watch the slideshow or read a summary document.

The most important message from the meeting is that good communication is the key to a successful education. Please do not hesitate at all to contact me during the year if you have any concerns, ideas or suggestions about your child’s education.

School Development Day

2342066937_c2368b76d7_b

There will be a student-free day this Friday 1 March.

During this time, staff will work together to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Group Education Plans (GEPs) for students with needs that fall outside of the normal range. The goal is to develop clear and achievable targets for these children and to use the resources of the school to help them achieve their potential.

We appreciate the support of the school community in making this day possible. The work we will be doing on this day will pay dividends for all students during the year.
