Spelling homework

AlphabetStudents are currently unable to access the online Spellodrome service. We hope that this problem will be rectified shortly. In the meantime, however, students should complete the following five activities as their spelling homework:

  1. Create a word cloud of their spelling words using wordle.net;
  2. Write a sentence for each spelling word (either by hand or using a computer);
  3. Play spelling games for fifteen minutes using spellingcity.com;
  4. Look up the dictionary definition for ten words in their list that they do not know. (If they know all of the words, then they should use a thesaurus to find  alternative words with the same meaning); and
  5. Use the ‘look, cover, write, check’ strategy (either online or using a pencil and paper) to learn the words in their list.

Students will need to ensure that they bring their spelling book (which includes a copy of their latest spelling list) home with them each night.

This homework is due after the long weekend. If students complete one or two activities a night, this should leave the Easter break free for the children to spend relaxing with their families.

Class Reward: Water bomb fight!

Water BalloonsBefore leaving on my long service leave, the class and I negotiated a reward for the students who followed the Year Six agreements while I was away. The reward that the children chose: a class water balloon fight!

I am pleased to report that every child in the class has earned the right to take part in this activity. We will be holding the water balloon fight on the oval at the end of the day on Wednesday. Please ensure that your child brings suitable clothes (i.e. bathers and a rashie top) plus a towel to school with them on Wednesday.

The activity will be closely supervised (by which I mean that the children will probably be throwing water balloons at me!). However, if you or your child would prefer an alternative reward, this can be arranged. Just contact me by email or phone (9302 4100).

Assembly: Wednesday 3 April

I Think CreativelyThe students in LA31 will be presenting the next senior assembly on Wednesday 3 April (This is the first school day after the Easter long weekend). Our assembly item will help to introduce the school’s new values program.

To prepare for the assembly, we ask that each child wear clothes in one bright colour. To find out the colour for your child, please see here.

We will be holding a dress rehearsal on Thursday 28 March. It would be great if your children could bring their costume on that day as well as on the day of the assembly.

Thanks for your support. We hope to see as many of you as possible at what should be a fantastic assembly.

Long Service Leave

Starting on Wednesday of this week, I will be taking a week-and-a-half of long service leave to explore the east coast of Australia. In my absence, the class will be taken by Mrs Claire Eaton, a highly capable and experienced teacher.

Mrs Eaton will work closely with the other Year Six teachers to ensure that the children’s learning program continues to run smoothly. The usual specialist classes and collaborative lessons will continue to run in my absence, as well as swimming lessons which will be the focus of Week Seven.

I look forward to catching up with you all on my return.
